Happy Memorial Day

I hope everyone pauses long enough throughout this Memorial Day, as we mosey on about our business freely doing whatever we decide to, to remember why we have the freedoms we do.  It's totally because of the people who came before us and fought for liberty.  It's also because of the men and women who continue to fight for us now.

Thank you to our soldiers and our leaders who believe in liberty, freedom and the old-fashioned American way.  I pray our country never loses what the founding fathers intended for us to have.  Join me as I make a pledge this year to learn more about the people who are running for office, and support only the ones who can keep our liberties and freedoms in tact.

This day is about more than honoring our soldiers who are still fighting for us and those who gave their lives for our country, it's also about choosing to honor those warriors by how we live.  Choose to live as a Patriot, my friends.  Love, honor and serve your country.

Snip, Snip

I'm so looking forward to this evening because I am getting my hair cut!

I haven't been in almost four months, and for some reason my hair has really been getting on my nerves the last few weeks.  It's just entirely too long.  I've worn it in a ponytail almost every day for the past week.

At least four inches are coming off and I can't wait!

Weekend Frolics

Saturday night The Little Guy had a sleep over that he went to so Hubby and I took it upon ourselves to get a little wild and crazy.  After an entire day dedicated to working for him I told him I needed a nice meal paid for by the company.  He took me to PF Chang's.  Loved that!

After dinner we headed to the local Wal-Mart (or Wal-Marts as some of the southern elderly like to say) to make sure we had coffee, orange juice and biscuits for Sunday morning.  Mainly we went for coffee, the other items were quite secondary on our priority list.

Hubby felt the need to take a detour through the toy aisle.  And look what we found...

I was cracking up so much that I thought that would make a good Facebook post, so I promptly uploaded the picture with a little message.  I also noted a joke that Elmo told me while on the toy aisle and told my FB readers how much I loved me some Elmo.  I was accused of being weird and drunk.

That's ok.  I have an Elmo TMX in my closet that I like to whip out from time to time just to hear him laugh and see him slap his leg while he cracks up.  Elmo is just the cutest Sesame Street character E-V-E-R in my book.  I even pulled him out when we got home, but I realized he is in dire need of a battery recharge.
Sunday was another work day, but this time I was in my sewing room.  I had a veil to make for my sister's upcoming Bachelorette excursion and she asked me to make her wedding garters.  I don't have a picture of the veil since I'm still working on it, but here is a sneak peak of the garters so far.  They just need a few embellishments and they'll be ready to wear.

The garter on the left is the one her groom will throw, and the one on the right is the one she will keep.  I think she picked out beautiful lace that matches her vintage 1930's/1940's theme perfectly!

Taking Stock

I'm a firm believer that everything in Life happens for a reason.  And, I think that anything and everything that happens is meant to be an opportunity to learn from and to improve upon.

If I succeed at the improvement part is totally up to me.  And I'm currently being tested by Life.

Last week I learned that everyone at the company I work for would have to take a 10% pay cut.  I was relieved that the news wasn't about layoffs, but up until last night my mind had been in a whirlwind as to what I should do.  The questions were looming in my head about sprucing up my resume and looking for work elsewhere, or trying to work part-time so I could help my husband more with his business.

We discussed our options at length and have decided to wait this out for a bit.  And coming to that conclusion has helped to have peace with the situation.

It's still hard to work with people who are asking themselves the same questions, and to notice that we're all wondering if our positions will ultimately get cut.  But, I'm trying my best to not let go of this new feeling of peace and not to worry.  To just let it go.

Float On

This morning while driving to work I heard Float On by Modest Mouse.  I had forgotten how much I liked this song!  And honestly, until I heard the d.j. say who was singing it I had forgotten the artist as well.

Some tunes are just so cheerful they really make me want to smile.  This is one of those songs.  I was picturing an upcoming event that I'll be participating in... floating on an inner-tube down a river in New Braunfels, Texas.  To be quite frank, I'm not looking forward to tubing.  I don't want to fry in the sun.  So, I'll update you next month after the adventure takes place and let you know how well I fared.   This song temporarily served as my anthem while I visualized myself looking all cool and stylish with water-shoe-covered feet dangling over the side of the innards of a tire.

I quickly snapped back to reality.  I'm not going to look cool at all.  This pasty white chick will be donning a big sun hat and a zinc covered nose.  I just don't think that warrants any level of coolness.  But a girl can dream, right?

The Walk

The Walk: A Novel
Have you ever read a book written by Richard Paul Evans? He's one of my favorite authors. I received an autographed copy of his latest book The Walk for my birthday last month, and I just cracked it open a couple of nights ago.

If you're looking for a poignant read I would recommend you check out something written by this guy. He moves me to tears, he makes me laugh, and the way he writes.... it's just soothing.

Excitement!

Do you ever just get so excited that you smile really cheesy-like and make that inhaling kind of squeaky noise? Perhaps an audio clip of what I mean would be a better descriptive tool to get my point across, however I don't have one handy. I digress...

Today is just such a day to make me smile and get all squeaky. It's my son's 12th birthday and I can't wait to pick him up after school today! We are heading out to an early dinner at his choice of fine dining establishment, then back to the house for cake, candles and presents. Do you think it's mean of me to make him wait until after dinner to open gifts? Ok, so maybe he'll open presents before we go eat.

I can't believe he's twelve! Time has flown by so fast. One of his gifts this year is a futon. He's already trying to convert his room into a bachelor pad. But, that's ok. I always had a super plain, nondescript bedroom so I'm excited for him to make his space his very own.

Stay tuned for the mother's day craft I finished up last night! Can't wait to share it with you!

Total Sweetness

There is something to be said for being around a genuinely sweet person. I'm happy and grateful to report that we have found just such a gal to be our receptionist. Granted we found her through a staffing agency, so there is the potential that she could decide not to stick with us and move on to another assignment. However, I'm crossing my fingers that she'll be around for 90 days (when we'll offer her a job if she meshes with the company) and beyond.

On a more serious note I was saddened to hear about the tornadoes that struck Arkansas last night. More are expected today. My heart goes out to those who are affected by this tragedy, and I hope that all of you will take the time to make sure you have some first aid supplies, food and water in storage as preparation for any type of disaster that might come through your region. You never know when electricity and water supplies could be interrupted.

Enjoy your Saturday, folks. And thanks for reading today. I know I've been MIA lately but I'm looking forward to less work at the office and more time back in Bloggyland! Have a great weekend!
